The latest spin-off of Jersey Shore will take place in Boston. Let’s think about this for a second:
Though the idea actually seems pretty natural, I don’t like it at all, for the sake of my personal pride. Jersey Shore was successful at representing a ludicrous demographic and creating and/or honing an amusing cliche characterization of the typical Jerseyite. And to boot, the state in which they live is quite popularly one of the shittiest in the nation. But what happens when the platform for this stereotype factory digs into the innocent soil of Massachusetts, my own home state? My pride and joy? No longer entertaining, and not nearly as funny. I already have a hard time dealing with people who question my lack of an accent, and I predict a globalization of the dudebro Masshole will inevitably make things much worse for us. Now I know how the majority of Jersey feels about The Situation.
If this article or the idea doesn’t interest you, at least read what people have to say about Boston in the comments section. For example:
I HATE Boston, all Boston sports teams, and most pricks from Boston. The city has the worst nicknames: Beantown, Cradle of Modern America, The Hub, The Walking City, etc… LA or Baltimore should be called The Hub, Boston should be called Dirt-Town, it’s filthy! I once dated a girl from there, I could barely understand her… poor trashy family, in a poor town!
If casting goes well, hopefully douchebags like this will change their opinion. However, I have a feeling MTV will sway things in the opposite, more negative direction.
(PS: I miss Boloco.)
